Logan Test Scores:
Front 8 (50%)
Side 11 (61%)
Overall 19
Pedestrian 5 (14%)
Child Protection 31 (63%)
The Logan’s body proved to be strong and the car achieved a three star rating for adult protection. The front passenger dummy’s chest instrumentation recorded high loads in the frontal impact. High loads were also recorded by the driver’s chest instrumentation in the side impact.
The child protection offered was fair. But protection for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users was poor.

Logan’s Frontal Impact
The stable passenger cell and the single stage non-tethered airbags for the driver and front passenger worked well together but loads recorded by the dummies’ chests, particularly the passenger’s, were on the high side.
While the footwell suffered only minimal distortion, poor control of the displacement of the clutch and brake pedal compromised protection for the driver’s feet. The brake pedal was also found to be blocked after the test, putting the driver’s lower legs at further risk. He also risked knee injuries from the steering column and its mounting bracket.
Logan’s Side Impact
The driver dummy’s chest instrumentation recorded high loads but his abdomen and pelvic region were protected. However, marks were taken away because forces transferred unrealistically up the driver’s dummy’s spine so reducing the impact forces recorded at its chest.
Logan’s Child Protection
The vehicle has a manual switch for the passenger airbag. Its status cannot be changed while the ignition is on and, if this is attempted, a warning light appears.
The recommended restraints were a Britax Romer Duo Plus fitted forward facing and a BabySafe Plus fitted rear facing. Both installed using the adult belts. They provided mixed protection. Both children were well protected in the side impact but in the frontal test, the dummies’ instrumentation recorded high neck loads on the younger child and high chest loads on the 3 year old.
Logan’s Pedestrian Protection
The bonnet gave some cushioning where an adult’s head would most likely strike and limited protection where a child’s head might strike. But the Logan’s wings, bonnet leading edge and bumper offered no protection at all.
